The confident assurance of a skilled team can mean the difference between a smooth recovery and a difficult one. Our goal at Bonnie Brae Nursing Home is to help the patient progress physically and mentally as much as possible. That’s why we have an expert staff of licensed therapists and support nursing team that works together to provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy as the patient recovers.
Physical Therapy – Our physical therapists evaluate the patient to determine the reason for and diagnosis of limited physical movement. They assist our patients with regaining strength, full range of motion, balance, and much more. Once the evaluation is complete, the therapist develops a program tailored to the needs of the patient.
Occupational Therapy – Similar to physical therapy, the goal of occupational therapy is to regain strength and range of motion. However, occupational therapy has the focused goal of assisting the patient with regaining the ability to do day-to-day functions or new functions they will need to do (i.e. operate a wheelchair). To do this, the therapist develops a set of exercises tailored to the patient’s specific lifestyle needs.
Speech Therapy – The speech therapist assists the patient to improve their communication, comprehension, and cognitive language skills that may have been affected by illness or aging. A thorough evaluation is conducted to determine the root of the problem (swallowing problem, acquired speech problem, etc.). The therapist then develops a plan of care that moves the patient toward improvement.
All of the services here at Bonnie Brae Nursing Home are focused on returning the patient to full health or assisting them with gaining as much mobility and independent function as possible. We do this in conjunction with the care of knowledgeable physicians, a skilled team of therapists, a well-trained nursing staff, and of course, the patient. We all work together as a team for the benefit of our residents and their families.
